John Rolfe
My name is John Rolfe and I’ve been a professional designer and inventor for 45 years with 3 start-up companies selling product which I’ve invented and countless others being manufactured by various companies over my career. I have won two international prizes for product design and have my products both in the UK’s design centre and on television. My approach to evolving developing and marketing products has been forged over many years of trial and error, success and failure. And running businesses selling my own designs have taught me the methods which seem to work most effectively. My methods were born also out of a desire to limit what for me was a very big problem which was that I could not stop inventing and designing things, it was a constant background to everything else I was working on to the detriment of particularly the existing products I should have been developing. I had to evolve some ways to limit or filter what I was inventing to that which was possible to get to market and get to profit the most quickly within my time and cost constraints. My own very simplistic philosophy is that the designers and makers of artefacts’ are the most important and worthwhile in society; I honestly believe every other job is less important! I love what I can do in inventing and designing physical objects which people, your audience, want to own.
Arthur Dalton
Arthur Dalton is a gifted Designer and Artist, with a first class honours degree in industrial design. He was the joint winner of Alexal 83 along with John Rolfe and the two have worked together on and in a vast range of products and industries. In one sector their products (and copies of them!) still form well over 50% of the total products in that marketplace.
